PF/RG Cups and Rim (Randy Gardner)
PF/RG 1 is medium deep. PF/RG 2 is deep. Both are #8 bore
The PF/RG rim is 17mm ID and 24.8 OD
These are silver plated. US Shank. Giardinelli threads (3/4-36).
"Having known Randy for a very long time, I was so excited to see his collaboration with Steve at Legacy Horn Experience that I bought a copy as soon as I could!
There are so many wonderful options these days in the 12-18 bore range, but I grew up playing an 8D with an old Giardinelli C8 so I was excited to see a new option with a slightly larger bore size. Once it arrived I tested it out with my larger horns and it felt like coming back home after a long time away.
After a few weeks of trying it out on recording work, the feedback from colleagues and the recording booth has been very positive!
The PF/RG1 feels very even throughout all registers (even the pesky range around my break!) and I especially appreciate that it doesn't back up in the upper register and just sings right out.
Often I feel that mouthpieces leave me feeling like I'm sacrificing the sound quality I want in order to gain efficiency, but not so here! I found that the PF/RG1 works well in all of my double horns (Berg/Paxman/Conn), and I think that anyone who's been looking for more warmth in their sound and that sensation of fullness will be very pleased. Less "punching the last row of seats" and more "filling the room with a warm bath of sound."
